Our Story

St Andrew’s House opened in 1956 after people from local churches (Baptist, Methodist and Congregational) identified a need for shared accommodation for older people.

St Andrews House is a registered charity (number 214293). There are no owners or shareholders to take profits out of the organisation. It means that any financial surplus belongs to the home and is available to maintain and improve St Andrew’s House.

The governance of the charity rests with the board of trustees. The trustees are all volunteers and bring a wealth of professional expertise and experience to their roles.

From its beginnings the home has been guided by values of kindness comfort and dignity; and has developed over the years to ensure that it meets the regulatory requirements and standards of accommodation expected today.

And whilst our residents and staff come from a rich diversity of background, culture and faith, the Christian ethos of care for all remains central to the way we work – defining how we care, not for whom we care.
